Thoroughbreds bounce back with 4-1 win at Fredonia

FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's hockey team got two goals and an assist from junior defenseman Mitchell Floccare in a 4-1 road victory at Fredonia on Saturday afternoon.
  • Skidmore (4-4-2, 2-3-1 SUNYAC) scored a pair of second-period goals for a 2-0 lead after two frames.
  • The hosts cut the deficit in half early in the third period before Floccare scored both of his goals over the final 10 minutes for the 4-1 final.
  • Alex Loguercio and Matthew Franzoi were the other goal-scorers for the Thoroughbreds. For Loguercio, it was his first collegiate goal.
  • Senior goalie Joshua Seeley turned aside 29 shots for his third win of the year.
  • Christian Day had the primary assist on each of Skidmore's first two goals. Ashton Breyer also registered a helper.
  • Following a scoreless first period, Loguercio opened the scoring at the 2:42 mark of the second when he snapped in a high blast over the glove on a quick 5-on-3 rush following a forced turnover by Breyer as Fredonia (0-9-1, 0-4-1) was trying to attack.
  • Matthew Franzoi made it 2-0 when he slipped behind the Blue Devil defenseman and scored on the breakaway after getting a saucer pass from Christian Day. Floccare had the second assist on the cross-ice stretch pass.
  • The hosts pulled to within one at 6:29 of the third with a Keenan McNeill tally from Owen Arnold.
  • Mitchell Floccare gave Skidmore its two-goal lead back with 8:45 remaining. He stripped the Fredonia forward of the puck in the neutral zone before zooming through the defenders and finishing on the backhand.
  • Floccare later scored his second with 42 seconds left from distance into Fredonia's empty net.
  • The Thoroughbreds finished 0-for-3 on the power play, and Fredonia went 0-for-2.
