MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team had a double-digit lead in the third quarter, but was unable to hold on as host Wesleyan outscored the Thoroughbreds 22-9 in the fourth quarter for a 50-46 non-league win on Thursday evening.
- Ruby Krop scored a career high 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting with six rebounds, a block, and a steal for Skidmore (1-6).
- Claudia Schneider scored eight with a team-high eight rebounds, four offensive.
- Sara Hastie led all players with four steals to go with four points and seven boards.
- Alli Jones led three Cardinals in double figures with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
- Olivia Quinn also had a double-double for the hosts, finishing with 16 points and 11 boards.
- Most team statistical categories were relatively even, but Wesleyan posted a 12-4 edge in second-chance points.
- Wesleyan (5-5) was 11-of-17 (64.7 percent) from the free-throw line on the evening, and sunk 9-of-13 (69.2 percent) in the decisive fourth period.
- Skidmore was 9-of-17 (52.9 percent) and 3-of-8 in the fourth.
- The Thoroughbreds scored eight unanswered in the first quarter on the way to a 16-11 lead after 10.
- The Thoroughbreds maintained the lead in the second while limiting the home team to 3-of-15 shooting, for an eight-point (27-19) halftime lead.
- The Cardinals were also held in single digits in the third quarter, though a Kaylin Genda 3-pointer in the last minute of the period shrunk Skidmore's 12-point lead to nine. It was Skidmore's largest lead of the night.
- Wesleyan shot over 50 percent in period four, while the Thoroughbreds finished 3-of-16. Skidmore was stuck at 40 for almost four minutes while Wesleyan scored seven in a row to take a one-point lead with 5:30 remaining.
- Hastie connected on a jumper with 3:39 left for Skidmore to regain the lead, and Schneider went 1-for-2 at the line after corralling an offensive rebound on Skidmore's next possession.
- Jones answered with a layup to tie it at 43, and gave the hosts the lead two possessions later making both of her free throws.
- Then, after a Skidmore miss, Quinn scored to make it a four-point game.
- Krop got open for an easy layup with 22 seconds left to cut the deficit to two before Quinn made one out of her two free throws to give Skidmore the ball back down three.
- The Thoroughbreds couldn't connect on the ensuing possession before the hosts hit one more free throw for the 50-46 final.
