HARTFORD, Conn. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team played the final three quarters within four points of Trinity, but the hosts used a dominant first quarter fueled by control at the glass for a 72-56 victory on Wednesday evening in non-league action
- Trinity, ranked 25th nationally by WBCA and 11th by D3hoops.com, had a 50-21 advantage in rebounding with a 46-24 edge in points in the paint.
- The Bantams opened on a 9-1 scoring run for a big early lead before a stabilizing second period from the Thoroughbreds cut the deficit briefly to seven. The hosts responded with another run for a 41-29 halftime lead.
- Skidmore (1-1 was twice able to pull to within 10 points in the third quarter on a Claudia Schneider jumper with 7:33 left in the period and later a Sophia Martinez layup with 4:46 on the clock.
- Early in the fourth, a Madison Meyer layup just shy of the two-minute mark pulled the Thoroughbreds to within nine. Trinity (3-0) quickly regained control by scoring eight out of the next 10 points extending its lead to 15.
- Martinez finished with 14 for Skidmore with four steals and three assists.
- Meyer scored 13 with five boards, including two out of Skidmore's five offensive boards, with one assist and one steal.
- Meghan Drury had 10 points off the bench for the Thoroughbreds on a pair of 3-pointers. She also had two steals.
- Schneider had nine points, three assists, two steals, and two boards.
- Marlo Simms led four Bantams in double figures with 18 points and 14 rebounds.
- Melissa Whitmore scored 12 with nine boards.
- Trinity turned the ball over 20 times versus Skidmore's 10.
- The hosts finished at 46.9 percent (30-of-64) from the field and shot 81.8 percent at the free-throw line.
- Skidmore shot 38.6 percent (22-of-57) as a team while going 5-of-20 (25 percent) from 3-point range and 7-of-10 at the charity stripe.
