Skidmore volleyball set to host Vassar on Tuesday for first-round match

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College volleyball team is set to host a playoff match for the first time since 2012 as it welcomes Vassar College to the Williamson Sports Center on Tuesday at 7 p.m. for a Liberty League First Round match.

ABOUT SKIDMORE
The Thoroughbreds enter the playoffs with a 15-9 record and finished 5-3 in the Liberty League. Skidmore finished fourth in the conference, one game behind William Smith and one ahead of Vassar. Skidmore completed its regular season last Friday with a quick sweep of Vassar.

The Brewers enter the playoffs with a 19-7 record and finished 4-4 in the Liberty League. Vassar finished fifth in the conference, one game ahead of Clarkson. Vassar completed the regular season with four-sets wins over Merchant Marine and Hunter.

HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
Skidmore defeated Vassar in five sets back on Oct. 24 at home. Two seasons ago, it was the Brewers who defeated the Thoroughbreds, 3-1, in Poughkeepsie in a first-round match. Vassar leads the head-to-head series 25-19 since 2002, but Skidmore has won each of the last two regular-season meetings.
 
NEXT
Tuesday's winner will advance to the conference semifinal on Friday, where it will take on top-seeded and host Ithaca. The championship match is slated for Saturday.
