SCHENECTADY, NY – The Skidmore College men's and women's swimming and diving teams split results in the dual meet road opener at Union on Saturday afternoon.
The women's team stayed perfect on the season with a dominant 212-79 victory over the Garnet Chargers after winning 15 total events in the meet, with 13 being in the pool and both on the boards. On the men's side, the Thoroughbreds narrowly lost in a competitive 142.5-150.5 dual meet that saw the team win five events, with three coming in the pool and both on the boards.
"Our team competed very well today. The men's meet came to the wire. Our success today on both meets was a credit to our team's versatility and depth," said head coach
Jill Greenleaf. "I'm excited by the progress we've already made in since last week! The future is bright."
MEN'S EVENT WINNERS
- In the 200 fly, sophomore Thomas Gaughan took the event victory after touching in first at 2:05.76.
- Senior Tomás Ruiz took the win in the 3-meter dive after recording the best score of 223.65 points.
- Skidmore swept the 200 back, with senior Brandon Lis taking the win with a top time of 2:04.65, while sophomore Allen Huseinovic was just edged out for second after touching in at 2:04.88. Rounding out the trio was freshman Graham Mahoney in third at 2:09.53.
- In the 500 free, junior Jonah Vaynshtok outpaced the field with his top time of 5:07.70.
- In the 1-meter dive, junior Josh Amembal took the win with a top score of 209.93 points.
WOMEN'S EVENT WINNERS
- In the 200-medley relay, the Skidmore quartet of Ginny Hunt, Faye Mooney, Gretchen Gwitt and Kelly Hsu combined for a top finishing time of 1:52.97.
- Freshman Emelia Lan continued her strong start to the season with a 1000 free event victory after clocking in at 11:22.60. The first year followed up by taking down the field with a top 50 free sprint of 25.41.
- In the 200 free, junior Sabrina Reed clinched the event win after clocking in at 2:03.38.
- Senior Gretchen Gwitt took her first event win of the meet in the 100 back, after clocking the fastest time of 1:01.46. The senior followed up by clocking the fastest 200 IM time of 2:19.00.
- In the 100 breast, junior Faye Mooney won her first event of the meet by posting the top time of 1:10.08. The junior followed up with a top time of 56.84 to win the 100 free.
- In the 200 fly, junior Kelly Hsu touched in first with her time of 2:19.70. Hsu followed up by also winning the 100 fly with a top time of 1:01.14.
- In the 1-meter dive, freshman Abigail Gorczynski scored best with her performance of 180.45 points.
- Senior Ginny Hunt won the 200 back after clocking in first at 2:15.46.
- The Thoroughbreds swept the 500 free, with junior Jae Mason touching in first at 5:30.80, and freshman Arianna Matthews placing second with a time of 5:34.59 before fellow freshman Laurel Halfman rounded out the trio with her time of 5:45.64.
- In the 3-meter dive, sophomore Lila Tulimieri took the win by scoring best with 182.48 points
- In the 200 free relay, Hsu, Mooney, Lan and Mason combined for the fastest relay time of 1:42.52 to take the win.
