TROY, NY – The Skidmore College women's soccer team battled RPI to a scoreless draw on the road Wednesday evening.
Producing the first shutout on the season defensively, the Thoroughbreds (4-2-4, 2-0-2 Liberty League) ended the evening outshooting the Engineers (4-4-3, 0-1-2 Liberty League) on the other end by a 16-to-11 margin that saw several near scoring opportunities, but couldn't break through after 90 minutes of action as both programs settled for the stalemate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- RPI recorded the first on-target shot of the match in just the second minute that was snuffed out by senior goalie Avery Rogers.
- Skidmore nearly broke through in the eighth minute when senior Madison Hallet headed a Thoroughbred corner kick toward goal, but an RPI defender made a heads up last-second team save, clearing the ball with just inches before it crossed the line.
- The Engineers generated a quality scoring opportunity on a corner kick in the 32nd minute that saw a cutting Micaela Ross receive the pass with a clean look at goal, but the shot sailed just off target.
- Entering halftime, both teams produced similarly with RPI narrowly outshooting the Thoroughbreds by a 7-to-6 margin. Both teams generated a pair of corners.
- In the 57th minute, the Thoroughbreds generated another scoring chance on an Alina Alcantara shot that was stopped by RPI goalie Audrey Montero.
- Junior Ellianna Caporusso delivered Skidmore's final shot-on-goal in the 85th minute that was saved by RPI's Montero.
- Rogers made key second half saves in the 57th and 87th minutes to keep the Engineers off the board.
- The second half saw the Thoroughbreds outshoot the Engineers by a 10-to-4 margin to close out the match.
STANDOUT THOROUGHBREDS
- Rogers tallied three saves for her first shutout performance on the season.
- Grace led the team with a game-high five shot attempts.
- Caporusso and Hallet each finished with three shots

Still unbeaten in conference play, the Thoroughbreds return to Wachenheim Field on Saturday against William Smith at 3 PM.
