Skidmore defeats Oneonta, 2-1, on the road

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Skidmore College field hockey team made two first-half goals stand up as it defeated SUNY Oneonta, 2-1, on the road on Wednesday afternoon.
  • Ella Costa and Molly Van Vranken found the cage, while Allison Morgan made five saves as the Thoroughbreds improved to 7–6. Oneonta dropped to 7–4.
  • Costa staked Skidmore to the lead at 7:45 of the first, finishing off a penalty-corner sequence on a feed from Gianna DiGioacchino.
  • Van Vranken doubled the advantage at 26:30, tucking home a setup from Mia Angwin for a 2–0 halftime margin.
  • Following a scoreless third quarter, Oneonta cut the deficit to 2–1 with 3:23 remaining on a corner strike by Molly Miller, assisted by Ali Howell, but Skidmore saw out the final minutes.
  • Miller's goal represented the final shot for either side.
  • Morgan stopped five shots to earn her third win of the campaign; counterpart Maura Leib also made five saves for the Red Dragons.
  • Skidmore owned a 10–8 edge in total shots (7–6 SOG). Corners were 9–7 in favor of Oneonta.
  • Skidmore has dominated the head-to-head series. The Thoroughbreds have won each of the last 18 matchups with Oneonta dating back to 2005.
