Topbas semis run highlights strong ITA Regionals weekend for Thoroughbreds

First-year Ege Topbas made a run to the singles semis.
| Box Score 3 SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – First-year Ege Topbas led a strong contingent of Thoroughbreds who excelled over the weekend at the Skidmore-hosted ITA Northeast Regional Championships. Topbas advanced to the singles semifinal round as five players reached quarterfinal rounds in the main draws.
  • Additionally, first-year Mahen Bitkuri rain straight through the B Draw with four victories including a quick 6-3, 6-0 win over Daniel Saxe of Union in the final to claim the top spot.
  • Topbas claimed victories over opponents from Hobart (6-4, 6-2), Hamilton (6-3, 4-6, 1-0[11-9]), the fourth-overall seed from Rochester (6-1, 6-1), and Vassar (6-4, 4-2[ret-inj]) to reach the semis. He dropped a 6-2, 7-5 decision to second-seeded Tarun Korwar of Hamilton.
  • Fletcher King reached the quarters in singles and doubles. In the singles main draw, he claimed victory over opponents from Yeshiva (6-0, 6-0), Hamilton (6-3, 6-2), and TCNJ (7-6[8-6], 6-7[5-7], 6-4), but he ran out of steam against Ithaca's Kisic in the quarters (6-3, 6-4).
  • In doubles, King and Nika Mori claimed wins over pairs from Baruch (8-5), and Ithaca (8-6) to reach thw quarterfinal round.
  • Yuval Goodman and Harrison Gradin were also in the doubles quarters. They dismissed duos from NYU (8-6) and RPI (8-1) before losing a tight battle in a tiebreak against Linares/Fischer of Hobart.
  • Mori also made it to the round of 32 in the singles draw thanks to a tidy 6-1, 6-4 over his first-round opponent from Rochester.
  • Goodman was there too. He won in straight sets (6-4, 6-2) over an opponent from Hamilton, but dropped a 7-5, 0-6, 1-0[10-6] score to an Ithaca opponent in the second round.  
  • In the doubles B draw, Bitrkuri and Bruce Lunder won their first-round match (8-3) against a team from Oneonta. They lost a quarterfinal tiebreaker (7-5) to Union.
