SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The Skidmore College women's soccer team battled Ithaca to a 1-1 stalemate in a Stable Game matchup at Wachenheim Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Thoroughbreds (4-2-3, 2-0-1 Liberty League) scored early in the first half on a brilliant connection from freshman
Olivia Chandler to senior
Madison Hallet, but couldn't hold off a relentless second half push from the Bombers (3-4-3, 0-2-1 Liberty League) that eventually broke through with the equalizer amid 13 shot attempts to force the draw.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Skidmore struck first in the 15th minute on a Hallet goal that was perfectly set up by an attacking chance from Chandler, who delivered a brilliant cross from the left side to the senior inside the box for the shoot and score.
- Junior Hannah Fetzer twice nearly broke through with the insurance goal for the Thoroughbreds, with on-target shots in the 25th and 41st minutes both stopped by excellent goalkeeping from Ithaca's Katrina Varnum.
- At halftime, the Thoroughbreds neutralized the Bombers offense to just two shots with no corners.
- However, Ithaca looked to flip the script coming out of intermission and did just that with a 13-shot barrage that resulted in the once-dormant offense netting the equalizer by Sophie White in the 74th minute to ultimately force the draw.
STANDOUT THOROUGHBREDS
- Hallet's goal is her first on the season and fifth as a Thoroughbred.
- Chandler's assist is her first on the year and third of her career.
