Hallet nets hat trick in 4-0 Skidmore shutout of Spartans

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – Senior Madison Hallet notched a career-high three goals as the Skidmore College women's soccer team cruised past VTSU Castleton in a 4-0 shutout at Wachenheim Field on Tuesday afternoon.

In a complete defensive shutout, the Thoroughbreds (5-3-4) didn't concede even a single shot attempt from the Spartans (5-9), largely due to controlling possession from start to finish and launching up a staggering 28 total shots in the attacking third.

Individually, Hallet's three-score performance marked just the fourth hat trick in the Liberty League this season, while junior Abby Lewis capped the scoring with a first-half strike.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hallet's first goal came in just the eighth minute on a chip shot from the right side off the dish from freshman Mara Grace, with the secondary assist from junior Amanda Shannon, who made the initial entry pass.
  • In the 13th minute, Lewis added on to the lead after receiving a stellar through ball from junior Ellianna Caporusso before beating the goalie in a 1-on-1 situation from the left side of the net.
  • The Thoroughbreds struck immediately coming out of intermission, with Hallet scoring her second goal just 43 seconds into the second half after slipping past the Spartans backline for a wide-open shot attempt on a pass from sophomore Alina Alcantara.
  • Hallet completed her hat trick in the 51st with a high-arching shot off a header from a Caporusso free kick that dropped just beyond the leaping reach of Castleton's goalie.
STANDOUT THOROUGHBREDS
  • Hallet's hat trick is the first of her career and gives her four on the season and eight in her career.
