ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY – A scorching offensive start fueled the Skidmore College women's soccer team to a 3-0 road shutout victory over Bard on Saturday afternoon.
Led by two quick goals in the opening eight minutes of play from junior
Abby Lewis, the Thoroughbreds (6-3-4, 3-1-2 Liberty League) seized control early and never looked back, outshooting the Raptors (3-8, 0-6 Liberty League) by a dominant 25-to-6 margin in a wire-to-wire conference victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lewis struck first in the seventh minute off the dish from junior Brooke Zienowicz to give the Thoroughbreds the 1-0 lead.
- A minute later, Lewis completed her early first half brace, this time off the rebound of an initial shot attempt from sophomore Olivia Chandler, to put Skidmore up 2-0.
- In the 25th minute, freshman Mara Grace pushed the Thoroughbreds lead up to 3-0 off the setup from junior Hannah Fetzer.
- Coming in relief of sophomore Sophia Sayers, who made one save in the first half of play, freshman goalie Kendall Livingston tallied two saves in the second half to close out the combined shutout.
