Thoroughbreds overpower Raptors 73-41

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team cruised to a 73-41 victory over visiting Bard College at the Williamson Sports Center on Friday evening.
  • With the win, the Thoroughbreds are 7-8 overall and 5-4 in the Liberty League. Bard is 2-14 and 0-9.
  • Three Thoroughbreds finished the game in double digit scoring, with junior Madison Meyer leading the way with 11 points and a game-high five steals.
  • Sophomore Claudia Schneider and senior Sarah Chambers each finished with 10. Chambers had five rebounds and two steals, while Schneider finished with three rebounds and two steals.
  • Each of the nine Thoroughbreds that had a steal finished with at least two. Five had two, three had three, and Meyer led with five.
  • Sophia Martinez and Sara Hastie both dropped seven off the bench, while Jenny Shine had three blocks and three steals.
  • Lexi Miller paced the Raptors, nearly posting a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. She also blocked two shots.
  • Skidmore quickly built a double-digit lead, 14-2, to start the game and never looked back as an aggressive full-court pressing defensive scheme forced seven Raptors turnovers in the first five minutes alone.
  • The Thoroughbreds finished the first quarter holding a decisive 25-10 lead with Claudia Schneider and Sarah Chambers combining for 16 points. Defensively, Bard was held to 4-of-15 shooting and had nine giveaways.
  • In the second, the Raptors couldn't find the bottom of the net for nearly five minutes as the Thoroughbreds led quickly ballooned to as high as 38-10 before Bard finally converted on a layup with 5:10 remaining in the period.
  • Entering intermission, Skidmore outscored Bard by a 20-12 margin in the second frame to take a lopsided 45-22 lead.
  • The second half saw Skidmore maintain the intensity as the home team outscored Bard 15-7 in the third quarter before closing out the game with a 13-12 advantage in the fourth frame.
  • Bard totaled 30 turnovers as the Skidmore defense recorded 24 steals as a unit, the most by the program so far this season.
