Thoroughbreds use season-best offensive output in victory over William Smith

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team secured a 75-61 win over William Smith in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon.
  • Cassie Davidson led the Thoroughbreds with a career-high 20 points, shooting 8-for-9 from the field and adding four steals. Her previous career-best was 19 in 2022 as a freshman.
  • Becca Horger reached a career milestone with her 100th steal, finishing the game with 10 points and five steals to cap a strong two-way performance.
  • Sarah Chambers finished with 13 points and six rebounds.
  • Both teams got off to hot starts. Despite William Smith shooting 70 percent in the first quarter, Skidmore led by five after 10. The Thoroughbreds shot 50 percent in the opening 10 minutes.
  • The Herons scored nine unanswered in the second to take a four-point lead. Skidmore regained the advantage, though, into the break thanks to an 8-0 run of its own. The Thoroughbreds led by one at halftime.
  • Skidmore rolled to its first double-digit lead early in the third quarter and led the rest of the way. William Smith pulled to within six after its first possession of the fourth quarter resulted in a Miranda Martin 3-pointer, but Skidmore put it back out of range by scoring the next seven.
  • The Thoroughbreds' defensive intensity forced 29 turnovers, which they converted into 34 points.
  • Skidmore also dominated the paint, outscoring the Herons 46-28, and received significant contributions from the bench, adding 23 points to the effort.
  • William Smith's Jojo Sulmasy led the Herons with 16 points and four rebounds.
  • Martin finished with 10 for the visitors.
  • Skidmore had 21 team steals, the most in any game this season. Eight different players had steals. Horger led with five, both Davidson and Emmy Plage had four.
  • The win improves Skidmore to 6-8 overall and 4-3 in Liberty League play, while William Smith falls to 2-13 overall and 2-6 in conference action.

  • Skidmore will go to Vassar on Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 5:30 p.m. before returning home next weekend against Bard and Ithaca.
