Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Hallet, Stone leads Thoroughbreds to miracle late comeback against Trinity

HARTFORD, CT – With their backs to the wall late in the match, the Skidmore College women's soccer team responded by scoring a pair of clutch goals in the final 6:37 to cap off an impressive three-goal second half, ultimately coming out on top 3-2 over Trinity on Sunday afternoon.

The Thoroughbreds (3-0-1) fell behind in the 83rd minute after a successful corner kick opportunity by the Bantoms (0-3-0), and promptly answered just 30 seconds later after junior Madison Hallet scored the equalizer with a shot attempt from way outside on a pass from sophomore Abby Lewis.

In the 87th minute, senior Ella Stone completed the Skidmore comeback on a penalty kick after being fouled well within the shooting box.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the first half, Skidmore generated a high-quality scoring opportunity in the 37th minute when Hannah Fetzer nearly found the back of the net after receiving a stellar Stone crossing pass right in front of the goal, but the shot fell just right and out of bounds.
  • The Bantams struck first in the waning minutes of the half as an intended crossing pass attempt sailed right past the reach of Thoroughbreds goalie Avery Rogers and miraculously into the back of the net for a goal.
  • Skidmore tied the game for the first time in the 70th minute after Lewis floated the ball over Trinity's goalie, who had moved herself too far from the net, after receiving a pinpoint lob pass from Stone.
  • After Trinity briefly took the lead in the 83rd minute after successful converting on a goal off a corner kick, Skidmore quickly responded with the equalizer and subsequent go-ahead goals to remain undefeated on the season.
STANDOUT THOROUGHBREDS
  • Stone and Lewis each finished with a goal and assist, as well as two shots on goal apiece
  • Hallet's game-tying goal marked her first on the season
