Stone wears the hat again as Thoroughbreds blank Plattsburgh 3-0

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Ella Stone recorded her second hat trick in three contests on Wednesday evening at Plattsburgh to lead the unbeaten Skidmore College women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over the Cardinals on the road.
 
Stone, a senior is now second in Division III in goals with eight through just five contests. She has now surpassed her goal total (6) from 2023.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first half, the Liberty League's leading goal scorer put Skidmore (4-0-1) ahead just 1:37 into the second period. She completed the hat trick less than 16 minutes later, sandwiched by a 52nd-minute tally for goal number two.
  • The first was from long range. After turning from a defender, Stone launched a strike from the top of the box past the Cardinal keeper Lauren Haley.
  • The second was a header from just outside the goalie box that took one bounce and found side netting. Olivia Chandler had the first of her two assists on the second goal.
  • Stone completed the hat trick on a run in and one-touch to the back of the net off a Chandler horizontal dish.
  • Skidmore finished with a dominant 20-7 edge on shots and 10-3 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Haley had seven saves for Plattsburgh (1-3).
 
STANDOUT THOROUGHBREDS
  • Mikayla Dorrer grabbed the assist on the first goal. It was her first point of the year.
  • Avery Rogers recorded her third shutout for the Thoroughbreds. She was relied on for three saves.
  • Chandler is now one of four Thoroughbreds with at least two assists on the season.
  • Stone finished with seven shots. Five were on target, and three went in.
  • Kyra Russman-Araya had four shots.

Skidmore closes non-league play on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. on the road at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh.
