NEWBURGH, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's soccer team dominated from start to finish on Saturday in a 5-0 road victory at Mount Saint Mary College.
- Skidmore is off to a 5-0-1 start and have outscored its opponents 18-3. Through six games, the team has matched its entire goal output from the 2023 season.
- Each of Skidmore's five goals were assisted.
- Ashley Downes scored twice as the Thoroughbreds rattled off three goals within the first 12 minutes. She scored from Ellianna Caporusso just 75 seconds into the contest. It was the first of three assists for Caporusso.
- Abby Lewis made it 2-0 just 1:01 later. Kyra Russman-Araya assisted.
- Downes got another one at 11:18 to make it 3-0. Caporusso, again, got the assist.
- Skidmore surrendered just one shot in the first half. Sophia Sayers made the save. It was the only one she needed to make in the split game. Nikolette Aponte made three saves in the second half in relief for the Thoroughbreds to complete the blank sheet. The shutout was Skidmore's second in a row and fourth in six games.
- Russman-Araya scored her first goal of the season in the 54th minute making it 4-0 Skidmore. Hazel Aiello got the assist, her third.
- In the 81st minute, Addie Dring completed the scoring with her first career tally. Caporusso's third helper of the game was her fifth of the season, which is tied atop the Liberty League.
- Skidmore finished with a 19-6 edge in shots and led 10-4 in shots on goal.
- Christina Kakavas had five saves for Mt. St. Mary. Maria Baldwin had three shots for the hosts and three out of four shots on goal.
- Skidmore now leads the series against MCMC 3-1 and had outscored the Knights 13-0 in the past three years.
NEXT UP
Skidmore is off until Wednesday, Sept. 25, when the Thoroughbreds play their home opener and open Liberty League play against Clarkson University.
