Skidmore drops 2-1 decision to unbeaten WPI

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, 2-1, against Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Sunday afternoon.

  • The visiting Engineers held a 2-0 lead when they scored an insurance marker in the 64th minute.
  • Hyungbin Kim put the Thoroughbreds on the board in the 70th minute. It was the third shot in a scramble inside the goalie box. Max Heberlein's initial try was saved, and Colin Goodhines made attempt that was blocked. The ball then squirted to Kim, who put it away with his left foot.
  • The Thoroughbreds managed just two shots the rest of the way. WPI (4-0) had six. Will Devall made two out of his four saves over the final 20 minutes for Skidmore, and the Engineers missed the frame on several other chances.
  • After a quiet start, Fabio Bastida-Andreeu scored on a rebound in the 26th minute to put the guests ahead. Devall was able to get a piece of the shot on its way in.
  • The Engineers doubled the lead in 64th minute. Tora Ito scored on a header off a one-touch volley from Mason Perham. Brady Burch picked up the second assist.
  • Shots finished 16-15 Skidmore (0-1-2). Both teams put six shots on target.
  • WPI keeper Julian Quaresima made five saves.
  • WPI had a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.
  • Skidmore finished with a slight edge in possession time, but WPI had more time spent in the attacking area.
