Thoroughbreds play to 1-1 tie in rain-soaked home opener vs. Geneseo

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Thoroughbreds scored less than three minutes in and the visiting Knights answered before the end of the first half as the Skidmore men's soccer team played its first game of the season at Wachenheim field to a 1-1 draw in the steady rain against SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon.

  • Colin Goodhines was the goal scorer for Skidmore (0-0-2). He has both of the Thoroughbreds' goals through two games.
  • Dillon Nelson had the assist. He set Goodhines up in the box with a feed through traffic. The low strike from the sophomore drilled the right post before drifting over the endline on its way across towards the opposite bar. It was the sixth career goal for the Longmeadow, Massachusetts native.
  • Geneseo got it back on the 32nd minute. It came shortly after back-to-back Knight corners. The visitors fired off three shots in succession, the first of which was stopped by Skidmore keeper Will Devall. After the second was blocked, Geneseo defender Eric Famularo scooped up the loose pieces and found the back of the night from short range.
  • Devall finished with five saves, four of them came in the second half.
  • Geneseo goalie Vincent Maronski Jr. stopped three shots.
  • Total shots were 13-11 Skidmore, but the guests had a 6-4 edge in shots on target.
  • Geneseo had a narrow 7-6 edge in corner kicks.
  • Skidmore pressed over the final 20 minutes, posting five out of the game's final seven shots. Devall made a point-blank save on Geneseo's Kyle Arraiano in the 84th minute. It was the last shot registered by either team.
  • This was the fourth meeting all-time between Skidmore and Geneseo. The Knights won last year's match up 4-2. The other two games (2017, 2018) were both ties.
NEXT UP: Skidmore will host Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Sunday at 2 p.m. to close out the back-to-back home weekend.
