SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – Playing in tough rainy conditions, the Skidmore College field hockey team fell behind early and couldn't overcome an efficient SUNY Geneseo attack to eventually lose 5-2 on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights (4-0) struck first early, recording a pair of goals within the first five minutes of the match to quickly pull ahead.
- Senior Beth Yorns responded for the Thoroughbreds (2-2) in the 10th minute, converting on a shot from the far left on the assist from fellow senior Kayla Hassett to cut the deficit in half.
- Geneseo closed out the first half strong, scoring their third goal in the 22nd minute before tacking on a fourth with eight seconds left to enter intermission ahead 4-1. Scoring the last three goals of the half for the road team, Ella Greico completed her hat trick to cushion her team's lead.
- A little over four minutes into the third, Skidmore once again found the back of the goal on a CC Wetter score that was assisted by junior Abby Ezickson, cutting the deficit to 4-2.
- However, Geneseo immediately responded two minutes later with their fifth goal of the day to end any comeback attempt from the Thoroughbreds.
