Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Thoroughbreds power past Utica in shutout fashion

SARATOGA, SPRINGS – Securing the bounce back win at home, the Skidmore College field hockey team routed Utica in a dominant 4-0 shutout fashion on Tuesday afternoon.

The Thoroughbreds (2-1) started the match with a relentless offensive attack against the Pioneers (0-3) and never let up, finishing with a staggering 41 shots on 24 penalty corners as the game was largely played on Utica's side of the field. On defense, Skidmore allowed just three shots and one penalty corner opportunity.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Skidmore started aggressive, quickly putting up seven shots on three penalty corners in the first seven minutes of the game. The number would quickly reach 16 shot attempts before the Thoroughbreds finally broke through on an unassisted CC Wetter goal in the 11th minute mark of the first.
  • Just two minutes later, the Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week found the back of the goal for the second time off an impressive pass from fellow senior Kayla Hassett that split a pair of Pioneer defenders.
  • In the 25th minute, Skidmore pushed the lead up to 3-0 after senior Brooke Tunnicliffe tapped in the goal off a rebound from a Hassett penalty corner shot attempt.
  • The Thoroughbreds found the back of the goal once more in the 47th minute after junior Abby Ezickson tapped in a pass from senior Beth Yorns, pushing the green and yellow's lead up to 4-0.

  • Wetter recorded 13 total shots on the day, with seven being on goal to score her pair of goals
  • Tunnicliffe scored her first goal on the year off two shots on goal.
