Thoroughbreds begin league play with 1-1 tie at Hobart

GENEVA, N.Y. – Both teams scored goals in the second half as the Skidmore College men's soccer team opened its Liberty League slate with a 1-1 draw on the road at Hobart College on Saturday afternoon.
  • Skidmore has tied three games in a row and now five out of seven this season. The Thoroughbreds are 1-1-5 and 0-0-1 in the conference.
  • Hobart is 1-4-1 and 1-1-1 in the Liberty League.
  • After the Statesmen took the lead in the 68th minute, it was Colin Goodhines with his fourth goal of the year for Skidmore in the 75th minute to tie it up.
  • Perry Sofis-Scheft had the assist. It was his first point of the year.
  • Frederick Madsen scored from Joe Pariano at the 67:16 mark, which gave Hobart the lead that it would hold for just over seven minutes before Goodhines' clutch marker to tie it.
  • Goodhines also had the first and only shot on frame after his tying goal. His low dive was kicked away by Hobart keeper Thomas Chyzowych at the last second.
  • Hobart did take four out of the last five shot attempts in the contest. All were off target.
  • Overall shots were 18-10 Hobart and the Statesmen finished with a 7-4 edge in shots on goal.
  • Will Devall made five saves. Skidmore was also credited with a team save in the 63rd minute in a scrum that saw Hobart fire three shots on goal within 30 seconds.
  • The Statesmen for a moment thought they had taken the lead early in the first half, but the goal was waved off on an offside call.  
  • Skidmore and Hobart have now tied six times in the last 10 meetings. Hobart leads the all-time series 12-9-13.

  • Skidmore will make the trip to Clarkson on Wednesday, Oct. 2 before hosting Vassar College next Saturday, Oct. 5 as part of Homecoming Weekend.
