Thoroughbreds fall to top-ranked Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, VT. – The Skidmore College field hockey team was defeated by national powerhouse Middlebury, 6-0, on the road Wednesday evening. Senior goalie Victoria Bodnar broke the program's single-game saves record after recording 26 in a historic night. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Middlebury pulled away in the first half by scoring five goals, two coming in the first quarter that was followed by three to close out the half.
  • Early in the third, Skidmore's Colby Paul looked to put the Thoroughbreds on the scoreboard with a pair of consecutive shot attempts that were both saved by Middlebury's goalie.
  • In the 40th minute, the Panthers recorded their lone second half goal to go ahead 6-0.
  • The Thoroughbreds generated a penalty corner opportunity just before the end of the third, in the 44th minute, that resulted in an Erin Ohlenbusch shot on goal that was saved.
STANDOUT THOROUGHBREDS
  • Bodnar's record-breaking 26 saves saw her stop seven shots in the first, six in the second, 10 in the third, before recording the last four in the final frame
  • Senior CC Wetter recorded the Thoroughbred's final shot on goal in the fourth quarter

The Thoroughbreds return home this Saturday for the Liberty League opener by hosting St. Lawrence at 2 PM.
