Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Catizone strikes late as Thoroughbreds tie Oswego

OSWEGO, NY – The Skidmore College men's soccer team struck first after junior Tobias Catizone landed the initial go-ahead goal in the 84th minute, but couldn't hold off a furious Oswego equalizer just minutes later, to ultimately conclude the match with a hard-fought 1-1 tie on the road Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Thoroughbreds (1-1-4) successfully fended off an aggressive Lakers (5-0-2) first half attack, which saw the home team put up 10 shots with seven corner kicks that continuously pressured Skidmore's defensive third. Led by three big saves from junior goalie Will Devall, the green and yellow successfully entered the half unscathed.
  • Stepping up the offensive attack in the second half, Skidmore tied Oswego in shots with five as well as gaining a 3-0 corner kicks advantage. However, both teams made excellent defensive stops, with both goalies recording crucial saves to keep things scoreless.
  • Catizone helped the green and yellow finally break through in the 84th minute after being threaded the ball right in the center of the shooting box and catching the Lakers goalie out of position for a no-doubter left-footed goal.
  • However, the Lakers responded in the 86th minute when Kyle Hanner found himself in the right place at the right time on a loose ball after Devall made a valiant play to break up a high crossing pass near the top of the box, but couldn't secure possession. With the goal now essentially undefended, Hanner shot the ball high and out of reach of Devall and any Skidmore defenders to find the back of the net, tying the game up.
STANDOUT THOROUGHBREDS
  • Catizone finished with two of three shots on goal, with his score representing his second on the season
  • Devall collected six saves against the aggressive Oswego offense
  • Colin Goodhines placed both his shots on goal
