Thoroughbreds and Roadrunners rumble to scoreless stalemate

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's soccer team played to its third tie in five games on the young season with a scoreless match against visiting Ramapo College on Wednesday evening.
  • Skidmore is 1-1-3 through five games. It is the first time that the Thoroughbreds have been shut out in 2024.
  • Ramapo is 3-1-2.
  • Will Devall earned his second shutout in a row for Skidmore. The Thoroughbreds have not allowed a goal in over 206 minutes. Devall made two saves in the first half and cut off a few Roadrunner crosses in the danger area.
  • Zachary Natt made four saves for the visitors, including a big stop in the 70th minute off Colin Goodhines on a free kick from just outside the box.
  • Shortly before the Goodhines try, about 15 minutes into the second half, Connor Mansfield slid a ball past the Ramapo keeper that appeared to be heading towards the net before it was tracked down by a Roadrunner defender about two yards in front of the end line and cleared to safety.
  • Goodhines had another chance with just over a minute left in the game. His header off a Cole Rogan cross rolled just wide of the post.
  • The look was the last of a run that saw Skidmore take four out of the last five shots of the contest.
  • Gianfranco Ponce had what was likely Ramapo's best scoring chance in the 14th minute. His strike from close range banged off the crossbar and remained out keeping the game scoreless.
  • Both teams had 13 shots for the game, though Skidmore finished with a 5-2 shot-on-goal advantage.
  • Ramapo had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
  • The visitors also finished with an unofficial 57-43 split in possession time.
