SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – A brilliant two-goal performance from sophomore
Colby Paul led the Skidmore College field hockey team to a lopsided 3-0 shutout over VTSU Castleton on Tuesday afternoon.
The Thoroughbreds (3-3) struck early and kept their foot on the pedal en route to a 17-to-4 shot disparity over the Spartans (3-3). Both teams generated seven penalty corner opportunities, with Skidmore leading 4-0 in that category at half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Thoroughbreds struck first just two minutes into the match as a stellar pass from Abby Ezickson found Paul just inside the shooting circle for a shot that was beyond the Castleton goalie's reach to strike the back left corner of the goal. Ezickson began the sequence with a defensive play that forced a turnover on a Spartan inbound.
- In the 23rd minute, during the second quarter, Paul found the back of the goal for a second time after scoring off a rebound after her original shot attempt in transition was saved by the Spartan goalie. Ezickson once again contributed on the score by making a terrific pass on the sophomore's original shot attempt.
- Skidmore put the finishing touches to a lopsided game three minutes into the fourth quarter after CC Wetter connected with Catie O'Rourke in transition to put the Thoroughbreds up by three scores.
