PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Propelled by three first half goals, the Skidmore College women's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 shutout season opener win on the road at St. John Fisher on Friday afternoon.
The Thoroughbreds offense saw an ultra-efficient 8-for-12 shots be on goal, with four different athletes notching scores on the day. On the defensive third, junior
Avery Rogers made a career-high eight saves for her fourth career victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the 25th minute, the sophomore duo of Abby Lewis and Ellianna Caporusso got Skidmore on the board for the first goal of the season after Lewis' shot off a Caporusso pass was just out of the Cardinals goalie's reach.
- Senior Ella Stone gave the Thoroughbreds breathing room in the 34th minute by finding the back of the net on an assist from sophomore Hazel Aiello.
- Skidmore began to pull away late in the first half on an unassisted goal from sophomore Alexandra Verna to give the green and yellow a 3-0 halftime lead.
- Late in the second half, Skidmore added on to the lead when sophomore Amanda Shannon connected with freshman Olivia Chandler on an excellently timed cross right in front of the goal.
