Wetter’s hat trick leads field hockey to season opener victory over Thomas

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Starting the season off at home, the Skidmore College field hockey team clicked on all cylinders offensively as the duo of CC Wetter and Abby Ezickson combined for all five goals in the Thoroughbreds' 5-1 victory over Thomas College on Friday afternoon.

The Thoroughbreds held a commanding 18-to-5 shot advantage, with eleven of which being on goal, and also led with four penalty corner chances to the Terrier's one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The duo connected early in transition when Ezickson hit ahead to Wetter for a successful one-on-one opportunity against Thomas' goalie, putting the green and yellow up ahead just five minutes into the game.
  • With six seconds in the first half, Ezickson found the back of the goal for her first score on the season. Her second goal came off the dish from freshman Ella Costa with two minutes left in the third, pushing the Thoroughbreds to a commanding 3-0 lead.
  • The Terriers got on the board in the early seconds of the fourth on a goal from Leah Knight, cutting Skidmore's lead down to two.
  • Skidmore immediately responded in the 47th minute with a successfully executed penalty corner play that saw Kayla Hassett find an uncovered Wetter for the fourth score of the game.
  • The pair connected minutes later on a pinpoint Hassett pass that found Wetter's stick directly in front of the goal.
