SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team played its fifth straight Liberty League contest as the Thoroughbreds traveled to Union College, where the homestanding Garnet Chargers posted an 11-9 victory. Skidmore drops to 2-3 in the conference and 4-7 overall, while Union is now 3-2 and 5-4.
- The Thoroughbreds jumped out to a 2-0 lead on first quarter goals from Gabriella Modesti and Lily Schwartzman just 34 seconds apart.
- The Garnet Chargers answered with two goals in 19 seconds three minutes later.Â
- Grace deBenedictis tallied on a free position shot with 1:46 left in the first to give Skidmore the lead back, but Union's Anna Smith tied it 22 seconds later.
- After falling behind 5-3 to start the second, the Thoroughbreds rattled off three consecutive goals in a span of just over a minute: Lily Hudner (5:37 remaining), Modesti (man-up, free position at 4:53), and Maeve McKinley (4:28) all scored.
- The momentum swung to the home team in the third quarter as the Garnet Chargers scored three in a row for an 8-6 lead midway through the frame.Â
- A second man-up, free position tally from Modesti – her team-leading 25th goal of the year – pulled Skidmore to within 8-7 with 6:17 to play in the third.Â
- A free position goal and a man-up goal for Union late in the third quarter made it 10-7 heading to the fourth.Â
- Maddy Marr made it 10-8 but Hannah Compa answered before Elizabeth Walsh concluded the scoring.
- Modesti (3 goals) and Marr (1 goal, 1 assist) had multiple points for the Thoroughbreds.
- Annie Campbell had two ground balls and two caused turnovers for Skidmore, which got 12 saves from Liv Kazanjian.
- Union's Sydney Widlitz stopped six shots and Smith had a game-high four points (3 goals, 1 assist).
- The loss was the third by two-or-fewer goals for the Thoroughbreds.
