MATCHUP:
  • Both squads enter the postseason having finished 6-4 in the Liberty League. Skidmore won the tiebreaker on a head-to-head victory over the Engineers.
  • Skidmore went on a five-game winning streak, four of which in the conference, to climb the standings to No. 4. The Thoroughbreds finished the regular season 9-8.
  • Skidmore enters the playoffs with a +42 goal differential. The Thoroughbreds have scored 210 goals and have surrendered 168.
  • Skidmore averaged 27.9 shots per game, 15.1 ground balls, 17.5 turnovers, 7.4 caused turnovers, and 14.6 draw controls. The Thoroughbreds have a 79.2 percent clear percentage.
  • Skidmore is led offensively by Gabriella Modesti, who has 33 goals and eight assists. Jillian Lockwood has 31 goals, Lily Schwartzman has 25, Maddy Marr 21, and Elizabeth Walsh 20. Phoebe Ross had 33 assists and is second on the team with 35 points.
  • Lara Strunk leads with 15 caused turnovers. Maeve McKinley has 61 draw controls. Ella Harris has 49.
  • Liv Kazanjian is 9-4 in the cage for Skidmore with a 9.16 goals-against average and a .534 save percentage. She is first in the Liberty League in save percentage, second in GAA.
  • RPI is 7-7 overall, but won four out of its last five games to reach the postseason. The Engineers are coming off a 20-9 victory over Clarkson on Senior Day.
  • RPI has a pair of 30 goal scorers in Megan Shay (36) and Ella Graff (35). Lauren DeLeo leads the team with 12 assists.
  • The Engineers enter the postseason with a -3 goal differential. The team has scored 158 goals on the year.
  • The Engineers averaged 24.3 shots per game, 15.4 ground balls, 17.0 turnovers, 7.2 caused turnovers, and 13.6 draw controls. RPI has a 78.0 percent clear percentage.
 
SERIES/POSTSEASON:
  • On April 10 in Saratoga Springs, Skidmore defeated visiting RPI 12-7 behind a dominant second half, where the Thoroughbreds outscored the Engineers 8-2.
  • Modesti scored four times for Skidmore, Schwartzman had three, and McKinley had two. Kazanjian made nine saves in the RPI win.
  • It was the first Skidmore win in the head-to-head series since 2019.
  • RPI leads the series 18-15 dating back to the early 90s.
  • The schools have not met in the postseason since 2001. Skidmore beat RPI in an Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association tournament game, 13-7.
  • #1 seed Ithaca got the bye. #2 William Smith hosts #7 St. Lawrence, and #3 Union hosts #6 Rochester.
 
NEXT: The winner will advance to the semifinals and will travel to top-seeded Ithaca College on Friday. Friday's two semifinal winners will meet in the championship game on Sunday.
