Skidmore surges in singles for 6-3 win over Garnet Chargers

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's tennis team won five out of six singles matches to rally from a 2-1 doubles deficit for a 6-3 win over visiting Union College on Friday evening.
  • Skidmore, ranked 38th nationally, is 9-5 on the year and 6-1 in the Liberty League.
  • Union is 9-7 and 3-4.
  • The tandem of Konika Dhull and Grace Truong picked up a point for the Thoroughbreds in first doubles.
  • At third, Coco Prokop and Ella Provost dropped a tiebreak as the Garnet Charges took a 2-1 lead into singles.
  • The Thoroughbreds won each of the first five completed singles matches to clinch the win.
  • Beilynn Geiss cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 6 to tie it up.
  • Katherine Almquist finished next (6-1, 6-1) to give Skidmore the lead for good.
  • Dhull won her second match of the day in the first singles match 6-1, 6-2.
  • Provost clinched it with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph at No. 4.
  • In the third singles match, Katie Wong was victorious despite a second-set challenge, 6-0, 6-4.
  • Truong battled from a first-set defeat to force a third, but dropped the super-tiebreak 10-7 at No. 2. It was Union's only singles win.
  • Skidmore had won 28 straight matches against Union and is 42-5 all-time.
  • The match was the first dual match to be played at the new outdoor courts at the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center.
NEXT UP: Skidmore will close the regular season and look to sure up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Liberty League Tournament when it hosts Ithaca on Saturday starting at 2 p.m.
