Thoroughbreds score early and often in 14-7 win at MCLA

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The Skidmore College baseball team scored 13 runs in the first four innings on the way to a 14-7 non-league win on the road at MCLA Wednesday night.
  • Skidmore had 13 hits from nine different players including two each from Trey Bourque, Zachary Leiderman, Mac Cady, and Sam Kornet.
  • Four Skidmore pitchers combined to allow just one run on two hits over the first six innings.
  • Peter Martin started and got the win. He tossed three innings of one-run, two-hit ball. He was relieved by Grayden Harris and Will Markwood who each fanned a pair in their innings before Aaron Kats pitched a clean sixth.
  • Bourque and Leiderman were both 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. Kornet was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored, and Cady was 2-for-3 with one run driven in.
  • Skidmore (15-10) stole five bases. Eddie Galvao had two. Jaden Torrado, Owen Roy, and Shaw Pedemonti all swiped one bag.
  • Skidmore got the early lead in the first with four thanks in part to a pair of errors.
  • After C Vargas hit a one-out homer for the hosts in the second, Skidmore broke it open with eight runs on four hits in the third all while sending 14 batters to the plate. Leiderman had the highlight of the inning, a bases-clearing, three-run triple that made it 11-1.
  • Back-to-back doubles from Ewen Donald and Bourque made it 13-1 in the fourth before Cady completed the scoring for Skidmore in the sixth with a two-out single to score an unearned run.
  • MCLA (5-18) closed it out with one in the seventh, two in the eighth, and three in the ninth. Vargas finished with three RBI for the Trailblazers.
