LEESBURG, Fla. – The Skidmore College softball team scored in six of seven innings in its first game on Wednesday and defeated SUNY Fredonia 12-8 for its second victory in five games to start the season. The Thoroughbreds then were defeated by Trinity College (Conn.), 13-1, and are now 2-4 on the young season.

Skidmore 12, Fredonia 8
- Fredonia took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a two-RBI single by Emi Chelius.
- Skidmore answered with a run in the second inning off a triple from catcher Bernie Berner followed by two unearned runs in the third for a 3-2 lead.
- Single runs in the fourth and fifth innings made it 5-2 but Fredonia plated five unearned runs in their half of the fifth for an 8-5 advantage. The Blue Devils had five hits in the frame, four of which came after an error with two outs.
- The Thoroughbreds countered immediately with a five-run sixth inning, highlighted by a three-run double to left center by third baseman Franchesca Casillas that put them ahead 9-8. A triple by Rachel Monser plated Casillas for a 10-8 margin.
- A pair of unearned runs in the seventh inning made it 12-8 for Skidmore, which registered a season high for runs scored and tied its season best for hits with 13.
- Centerfielder Grace O'Connell, the clean-up hitter, was 4 for 4 with a double, three runs and an RBI in the victory. Casillas had two doubles, a run and four runs batted in, and leadoff hitter Cortney Somsky had two hits, including a triple, three runs and an RBI. She also stole a base.
- Monser (1-1) earned the win in relief, allowing one run on three hits in 2.1 innings. Madison Lowe (0-2) took the loss following 1.1 innings of relief.Â
- Megan Guidry had two hits in four at bats with a run and an RBI for Fredonia.

Trinity 13, Skidmore 1 (5 inn.)
- Trinity built a big lead in the top of the second inning when it sent 11 batters to the plate, scoring six runs on three hits. Annika Haley had a two-run single to open the scoring, before four teammates knocked in one run apiece in the frame.
- Skidmore got one back in the third. Claire Stone singled to lead off the inning, stole second, and came around on an O'Connell opposite-field single.
- After plating one in the fourth, Trinity scored six runs on seven hits in the fifth highlighted by an Emily Killoran bases-clearing, three-run double. It was the only extra-base hit for either team in the game.
- Trinity hit 14 singles as a team.
- Heather Roth allowed a run on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts to pick up the win in the circle for the Bantams.
