Big Green Scream 2024

Big Green Scream, Senior Day to highlight final home basketball weekend

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College basketball teams will play their final two home games of the regular season this weekend at home. The Thoroughbreds host Hobart and William Smith Colleges on Friday (women 5:30, men 7:30) for the return of the Big Green Scream. Then, Skidmore hosts RIT on Saturday (women 2, men 4) for Senior Day.

The first 250 fans at each game will receive a free t-shirt at Friday's Big Green Scream. There will also be in-game contests and prizes, including a grand prize gift card to the Skidmore Shop. The event will feature the return of Recycle Mania.

General admission is free of charge for all fans and students.

The regular season closes for both teams next weekend on the road when Skidmore visits St. Lawrence and Clarkson.

WOMEN

The Thoroughbreds are 17-4 overall and 12-2 in the Liberty League and have already clinched a playoff spot and home-court advantage for their first postseason game. Jessica Turner's squad is one game ahead of Ithaca for second place and will look to clinch a first-round bye and home semifinal game over its final four regular season games.

William Smith (5-16, 5-9 Liberty League) is in the hunt for a playoff spot and currently trails sixth-place Union by one game. RIT (8-13, 7-7 Liberty League) is currently alone in fifth place.

Skidmore will host either a first-round game on Tuesday, Feb. 20 or a semifinal match-up on Friday, Feb. 23.

MEN

Skidmore is 4-16 and 2-12 in the Liberty League and are welcoming Hobart, a team tied for first place in the league for the Big Green Scream on Friday. After that, RIT comes into town in the middle of a massive block of teams vying for positioning. Two teams are tied for fourth (RIT, Bard) at 7-7, and four after that (Clarkson, Union, Ithaca, Vassar) are all 6-8. RIT travels to Vassar on Friday.

Skidmore is in the unfamiliar position of being eliminated from playoff contention for just the second time since Joe Burke took over the program in 2010. Skidmore has won five league titles and appeared in six NCAA Tournaments over that time. The youthful and energetic Thoroughbred squad can play the role of spoiler with the chance of finishing as high as seventh in the Liberty League.
