Meet records fall at Vassar Sprint Invite

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.—The Skidmore College men's and women's swimming and diving teams closed out the regular season at the Vassar Sprint Invitational Saturday afternoon. The men finished first, while the women were second, right behind the host school.
  • The teams set meet records in the men's 200 medley relay, the exhibition 200 mixed medley relay and Ryan Delfico in the 100 IM.
  • The men's 200 medley relay team of Delfico, Liam Keating, Brendan Lu, and Nicolas Sodi finished first in 1:37.69, just .10 in front of Vassar.
  • The exhibition 200 mixed medley winning team of Delfico, Keating, Gretchen Gwitt and Kelly Hsu finished in 1:44.75.
  • Delfico's winning time in the 100 fly was 53.59 and he won the 100 IM (54.30), while finishing second in the 100 breast (1:01.58). Will Quinn was second in the 100 fly (55.88) and third in the 100 IM (58.58).
  • Jonah Vaynshtok won the 500 free (5:05.31) and finished second in the 50 back (26.58). Sodi won the 100 back (54.56) and 200 free (1:50.42). Lu won the 50 free (21.93) and 50 fly (23.61) and was second in the 100 IM (55.31). Brandon Lis was first in the 400 IM (4:29.78) and second in the 200 free (1:52.16).
  • Keating was second in the 50 breast (28.01) and third in the 100 free (51.68). Owen Magoon was third in the 50 free (22.41) and second in the 100 free (50.94). David Marcello was third in the 400 IM (4:44.58).
  • Faye Mooney was first in the 50 breast (32.36).
  • Hsu was second in the 500 free (5:22.03) and 50 free (25.67) and third in the 100 free (56.12). Caroline Rogers was third in the 100 back (1:03.85). Gwitt took third in the 100 fly (1:01.01) and 100 IM (1:05.86).
  • Ella Palmet finished second in the 50 back (29.57). April Cook was second in the 200 free (2:06.61), while Emma Bedard was third (2:08.41).
  • Tomás Ruiz won the 1-meter (181.40) and 3-meter (219.40) diving events.
  • Coach Jill Greenleaf: "Today was an exciting meet with many athletes recording season best times. We swam fast, raced tough, and were able to put together a very strong team performance. Thanks to host Vassar for adding some extra fun to the Sprint Invite with the mixed 200 medley relay and a senior cannonball contest! Our athletes always enjoy this meet, and the sense of fun going into conference championships is perfect."
  • NEXT UP: The Thoroughbreds head to Ithaca for the Liberty League Championships Feb. 21-24.
