Thoroughbreds earn playoff bye with 54-38 win at SLU

CANTON, N.Y.—The Skidmore College women's basketball team extended its record win streak to 11 with a 54-38 win at St. Lawrence University Friday night. The win clinches the second seed and a first-round bye in the upcoming Liberty League tournament. The Thoroughbreds are 20-4 and 15-2 in league play. The Saints are 11-13 and 9-8.
  • After closing out the regular season Saturday at Clarkson, the defending Liberty League champions will host a semifinal game on Feb. 23 at a time to be determined.
  • The 20 wins marks the first time in program history the team has won 20 in consecutive seasons. The 2023 championship team won a program record 23 times.
  • Sarah Chambers led Skidmore with 11 points and Cassie Davidson added 10. Andi Levitz chipped in nine points off the bench, while Emmy Plage had eight points and a career-high 10 rebounds.
  • Elizabeth Flynn led the Saints with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Flynn scored the game's first basket, giving SLU its only lead. After Skidmore missed its first three shots, Chambers hit a confident three to put the Thoroughbreds in front for good, 3-2 with 7:20 to play in the first quarter.
  • Skidmore led 13-11 after one, extending the lead to 25-18 at the half and 39-28 after three on the way to the 54-38 win.
  • The Thoroughbred defense stifled the Saints, compiling a 19-2 advantage in points off turnovers, while holding the opponent to a dismal 14-59 (.237) from the floor, including 1-12 in the second quarter.
  • Skidmore dominated bench scoring 32-10, while holding its opponent under 40 points for the ninth time this season and fifth time in its last six games.
  • The win completed the regular season sweep of SLU for the second straight year.
