SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team concluded its home regular season schedule with a 58-43 win over RIT on Saturday afternoon. Before the game, Skidmore honored its three seniors:
Emilija Jakumaite,
Julia Blanck,
Maddie Hastings.
- The Thoroughbreds have now won 10 straight and sit at 19-4 on the year and 14-2 in the Liberty League. Vassar clinched the top seed and Skidmore will be second, and get a first-round bye, with one win or one Ithaca loss next weekend.
- Sarah Chambers led Skidmore with 11 points, nine rebounds, two blocks, and two assists.
- Jakumaite celebrated Senior Day with 10 points with two rebounds and an assist.
- Both Becca Horger and Melissa Severino finished with eight points. Horger added five rebounds and three steals, while Severino posted a pair of rebounds and assists.
- Hastings had seven rebounds and an assist with two points.
- Skidmore had nine players with at least one field goal.
- RIT (8-15, 7-9 Liberty League) was paced by Emma Waite with 18 points, two assists, and two rebounds.
- The Tigers lingered throughout the first half and despite never having the lead, trailed by just three points with 1:17 left.
- Severino registered six out of her eight points on 3-pointers in successive possessions, sandwiched with an RIT layup to send Skidmore into recess with a 28-21 lead. She scored her other two points in the final minute of the third quarter to bump Skidmore's cushion to 10 after 10 minutes of play.
- The Thoroughbreds led by as many as 16 in the fourth period and limited to the visitors to just 10 points for the 58-43 final.
- RIT hit half of its shots (8-of-16) in the second quarter, but otherwise went 9-for-38 (23.7 percent) from the field.
- Skidmore finished with a 32.4 percent (22-of-68) shooting afternoon.
- The Thoroughbreds dominated the bench point battle (34-7) and converted a 14-6 edge in second-chance points.
- Skidmore has won four straight over RIT.
NEXT UP: Skidmore will wrap its regular season next weekend on the road at St. Lawrence and Clarkson. RIT is clinging to the sixth and final playoff spot with a one-game lead over William Smith. The Tigers host Union and Bard next weekend.
