POTSDAM, N.Y. — The Skidmore College women's basketball team opened Liberty League play with a 60-44 victory over Clarkson University on Friday at Alumni Gymnasium.
· Madison Meyer led the Thoroughbreds (3-3, 1-0 Liberty League) with 14 points off the bench, going 5-for-8 from the field and 3-for-4 from the free-throw line. She also had three steals and four rebounds.
· Sarah Chambers added 11 points, including three 3-pointers, and contributed four rebounds, two blocks, and two steals.
· Skidmore took control early, outscoring Clarkson 20-13 in the first quarter and extending its lead to 37-23 by halftime.
· The Thoroughbreds maintained a balanced offensive attack, with 10 players contributing points and the bench providing 34 total points. Thoroughbreds finished with a 34-7 edge in bench points.
· Clarkson (4-4, 0-2 Liberty League) was led by Cassidy Dumont's 16 points, including two 3-pointers.
· Fallon Griffin added eight points and four rebounds, but the Golden Knights were unable to overcome Skidmore's defensive pressure, committing 22 turnovers and shooting just 25 percent from beyond the arc.
· Skidmore's defense was key, forcing 14 steals and holding Clarkson to only four points in the fourth quarter. Meyer and Audrey Bowen led with three steals apiece.
· The Thoroughbreds also dominated second-chance opportunities, scoring 17 points off offensive rebounds. The Golden Knights had zero second-chance points.
· Using an extended rotation, the Thoroughbreds had 12 different players play at lead 13 points and used all 15 players on the roster for at least three.
· Skidmore extends its win streak over Clarkson to eight and has won 12 of the last 13 head-to-head meetings.
