Veteran Skidmore women’s basketball team eager to take the court for another run

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team has appeared in the Liberty League title game two years in a row. Two years ago, the squad won the championship and earned the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament win.

Eight players remain from that championship team, including a big senior class of six. For them, the 2024-25 season will be their last to climb the mountain again. New head coach David Bostick has the team prepared for the long winter season. It all begins for the Thoroughbreds on Saturday at 7 p.m. on the road at Mount Saint Mary College. The Thoroughbreds were picked fourth in the Liberty League Preseason Poll.

THE SCHEDULE AHEAD
There is no soft landing for Skidmore in November. After Middlebury, the Thoroughbreds will pay a visit to nationally seventh-ranked Bowdoin on Nov. 16. Skidmore will then play three consecutive non-league home games against Middlebury (Nov. 20), Williams (Nov. 23), and Cortland (Nov. 26). Liberty League play begins on the road at Clarkson and St. Lawrence Dec. 6-7. The semester closes Dec. 11 at home in a rematch of last year's championship game with Vassar.

The schedule picks up shortly after the New Year at home against preseason top-ranked and defending national champion NYU Jan. 4 before seeing the team the Thoroughbreds lost to in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, Tufts. Other spring semester conference home games are RIT/William Smith Jan. 17-18, Bard/Ithaca Jan. 24-25, Union/RPI Jan.31/Feb. 2, and St. Lawrence/Clarkson Feb. 21-22. Notable events include Alumni Weekend Jan. 17-18 and the Big Green Scream and Senior Day Feb. 22.

LIBERTY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT
The first round of the conference championship tournament will be on Tuesday, Feb. 25 followed by the semifinals (Feb. 28) and championship (March 2).

STAR RETURNERS
The roster of 15 has a dozen returners including a large class of six. Amelia Medolla earned All-Liberty League Honorable Mention as a junior. She averaged 6.3 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists last year. Also back are College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honorees seniors Sarah Chambers, Cassie Davidson, and Becca Horger.

INCOMING TALENT
The 2024-25 team features three first-year players.

FROM HEAD COACH DAVID BOSTICK
"This will be an exciting season and I am happy with the energy and enthusiasm we have shown in practice every day. With the mix of experienced upperclassmen and talented newcomers, the team is focused on competing for a conference title. We look to build on last season's successes, with strong senior leadership and some new offensive strategies, I believe the team is ready to compete at a high level."
