Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Thoroughbreds advance to Liberty League Semifinal in penalty kicks over Ithaca

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Will Devall stopped a pair of penalty kicks, and Edo Ferrari scored the clincher as the Skidmore College men's soccer team advanced to the Liberty League semifinal with a dramatic penalty-kick victory over visiting Ithaca on Tuesday afternoon.
  • After a scoreless 110 minutes, which included 20 minutes of overtime, the Thoroughbreds prevailed with a 4-3 decision in PKs. The game is recorded officially as a tie.
  • Skidmore (6-3-7) advances to the semifinals, where it will play second-seeded St. Lawrence on Friday (start time TBA).
  • Nick Jardim, Leo Kachanovsky, Colin Goodhines, and Ferrari all converted their penalty kicks for Skidmore.
  • Devall made full-extension saves on both the first and fourth Ithaca attempts. The Bombers were successful on their other three attempts. Andrew Kusek, Jared Krasnove, and Cameron Wooten each converted for Ithaca.
  • Ithaca went first, so Ferrari, who hadn't played all afternoon, was able to clinch the 4-3 decision when he calmly stepped up and delivered the decisive blow.
  • With the result, Skidmore avenged a near carbon-copy result from 2021, when in the semifinals, Ithaca won the penalty shootout after 110 minutes of scoreless play.
  • The game remained scoreless through regulation thanks to a couple of key defensive stops. In the 84th minute, a close-range shot from Krasnove for Ithaca was kicked aside by Nick Jardim on its way to the net.
  • Skidmore had a prime scoring chance in the 108th minute, with just over two minutes before PKs. Alec Llerena's powerful shot from just inside the box was deflected away by Ithaca keeper Brayden Milbrandt's outstretched finger.
  • Skidmore controlled most of the play in the first half, taking all seven shots recorded in the period.
  • Ithaca gained momentum in the second half, taking five of the first six shots in the second 45 minutes before Skidmore regained control with the next four.
  • Skidmore had the only two shots of the two overtimes.
  • Skidmore finished with a 15-8 edge in shots and a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Both teams took four corner kicks, and Ithaca was called for 16 fouls compared to 12 for the Thoroughbreds.
  • Five Skidmore field players played all 110 minutes: Perry Sofis-Scheft, Dillon Nelson, Jardim, Goodhines, and Henry Fogel.
