#12 Skidmore shuts out Wentworth, 3-0, to open season

EVERETT, Mass. – The Skidmore College men's hockey team defeated Wentworth 3-0 on Saturday afternoon on the road to open the 2024-25 season.
  • Skidmore, ranked 12th nationally, broke through in the second period at 11:31 with a power-play goal from Evan Brown, assisted by Zach Lindewirth and Ryan Waltman, putting the Thoroughbreds up 1-0. It was the first collegiate goal for Brown on his second shot on goal.
  • In the third period, Kevin Urquhart doubled the lead at 14:44, scoring an even-strength goal with assists from Zach Frisk and Oscar Worob.
  • Then, with under a minute left, Jacob Zwirecki sealed the win with an empty-net goal at 19:11, his first of the season.
  • Skidmore capitalized on one of two power-play opportunities, while Wentworth failed to convert on their single chance. Just six minutes of penalties, combined, were taken in the game.
  • Despite being kept off the board for the first half of the contest, Skidmore dominated offensively with 47 shots compared to Wentworth's 22.
  • Lindewirth led all players with six shots. Danny Magnuson, Freddie Ilias, and Urquhart all had five.
  • For the hosts, Gavin Klaassen ripped off four shots.
  • Junior transfer Joshua Seeley earned the shutout with 22 saves, including 11 in the first period, in his first action between the pipes for Skidmore.
  • Wentworth's Jack McGovern faced intense pressure throughout, stopping 44 shots in the loss.
  • Skidmore maintained control in faceoffs, winning 31 of 56 (55.4 percent). Ryan Waltman led with a 10-7 record, followed by Worob at 9-6.
  • With the victory, Skidmore has now defeated Wentworth in three straight early-season victories, outscoring the Leopards 12-1.
