Saints score late to down Skidmore, 1-0

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – After nearly 78 minutes of scoreless play, Max Mogul scored for St. Lawrence to give the visiting Saints a 1-0 win over the Skidmore College men's soccer team in a Liberty League battle on Saturday at Wachenheim Field.
  • The goal by the SLU senior came on a counter marching down the field shortly after a Skidmore chance on the other end. Mogul accepted a feed from Sam Pijpers through the middle, staying narrowly onside, and slipped the low shot past the Thoroughbred keeper for the only goal of the game.
  • Skidmore is now 4-3-6 overall and 3-2-2 (11 points) in the Liberty League. With two games remaining next week, Skidmore is tied with Clarkson for fourth place. There are seven teams with at 10 points or more. At least one of them will not make the playoffs.
  • SLU opens up a four-point lead for first with the win improving to 8-2-4 and 5-0-3 (18 points). The Saints are unbeaten over their last 12 matches.
  • Skidmore got off to a solid start with the game's first four shots of the game over the first 20 minutes.
  • SLU responded with three shots, all on target, to thoroughly test Skidmore keeper Will Devall. He stopped them all, three out of his six saves for the day.
  • In the 78th minute, with the St. Lawrence keeper way out of position, a Skidmore shot off the boot of Cole Rogan was stopped by a Saint defender on the way to the goal. Seconds later, following a brief injury timeout, Colin Goodhines chased down an Alec Llerena long ball but was unable to get there while running shoulder-to-shoulder with his mark.
  • Within just a few seconds, St. Lawrence moved the ball quickly up the field and scored.
  • Shots were a dead heat, 15 apiece. Skidmore fired eight shots on goal. St. Lawrence had seven.
  • For St. Lawrence, George Charalambous had the win and clean sheet with seven saves.
