Thoroughbreds shake off Raptors for win in three sets

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Skidmore College volleyball team opened its weekend road trip with a three-set sweep (25-19, 25-18, 25-19) at Bard on Friday evening.
  • With one league match remaining, Skidmore is 3-4 in the Liberty League and 10-13 overall.
  • Bard is 4-17 and 0-5. Skidmore is a perfect 19-0 against the Raptors all-time.
  • Jazlin Chen led the Thoroughbreds with 10 kills on just 16 attempts and a .438 swing percentage. She added three blocks, two solo, two assists, and five digs.
  • Rudi Reyes also posted a .438 percentage finishing with eight kills and three digs.
  • Angie Mozrall tallied six kills with two blocks.
  • Three others (Maya Stolarz, Madison Manning, and Natalie Peterson) all had five kills. Manning led all Skidmore players with 10 digs.
  • Skidmore finished with a team swing percentage of .252.
  • Catriona Hoelperl tallied 19 assists and nine digs with three aces. Tiffany Flores had a team high four aces with 10 assists and five digs.
  • Bard posed a challenge in the first set. It was 12-10 Skidmore when the hosts went on a 5-1 run to briefly take the lead. Skidmore turned it around quickly and scored eight unanswered points to regain control.
  • The Raptors continued to be a tough out in the second set. Skidmore scored the first six points, but Bard chipped away and later used a 5-1 mid-set run to pull to within four. Skidmore rebounded with a 6-2 run of its own to create eight points of separation and enough to withstand one more Bard push.
  • Bard raced to an 8-4 lead in the third. Skidmore came out of a timeout with a 5-1 run to work it back to even and then extended it with four unanswered to finish the run 9-1 and take the lead for good. The Raptors were able to pull to within two, 18-16, before the Thoroughbreds scored five out of six to get to 23 and clinched the match shortly after on a Stolarz kill.
  • LaeAnna Riley, Annika Fittie, and Coral Cook all had eight kills for Bard.
