ITHACA, NY – The Skidmore College field hockey team put together a stout defensive team effort, led by senior goalie
Victoria Bodnar, but couldn't generate enough offense to ultimately fall to No. 22 Ithaca, 2-0, on Friday afternoon.
Helping keep the Thoroughbreds (8-9, 2-4 Liberty League) in the game by stopping a dozen shots from the Bombers (10-5, 5-1 Liberty League), Bodnar officially moved up to second all-time in program history in career saves, as she now sits with 366 to shoot past the 358-mark accumulated by Liz Catinella from 2007-10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game began with a silent offensive first quarter from both teams, as both teams combined for just a single shot attempt.
- Despite a valiant defensive effort throughout the second period, in which the Thoroughbreds stopped the initial six shot attempts from the Bombers, the home team finally broke through on a penalty corner opportunity with just 24 seconds left in the half after scoring off a rebound of a Brooke Golden defensive save.
- Skidmore generated the team's lone penalty corner in the 18th minute during the second quarter, but couldn't capitalize against the Bombers defense.
- In the 60th minute, the Bombers scored the insurance goal in transition on a shot from the top of the shooting circle to officially put the game away.
STANDOUT THOROUGHBREDS
- Golden's defensive save is her third of the season and sixth in her career
