Thoroughbreds suffer 2-0 loss to Hartwick

ONEONTA, NY – The Skidmore College field hockey team fell on the road with a 2-0 defeat at Hartwick on Wednesday afternoon.

Despite the Thoroughbreds (4-6) outshooting their opponent 7-to-4 and holding a massive 14-to-5 penalty corners advantage, the ball simply couldn't find the back of the cage while the Hawks (3-5) in turn capitalized on a first half penalty corner that was followed by a successful second half penalty stroke conversion.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Skidmore kicked off the match with an aggressive approach offensively, generating seven penalty corner chances in the first quarter alone. In the sixth minute, senior Kayla Hassett saw a golden scoring opportunity abruptly shut down after a terrific defensive save was made by Hartwick's Kiara Dolan.
  • The Hawks struck first in the 26th minute of the first half by successfully converting on their first penalty corner opportunity of the match.
  • The second half saw Hartwick add on with an insurance goal with less than five minutes to go in the third, after being rewarded a penalty stroke after an untimely foul well within the shooting circle on an initial penalty corner opportunity. Taking the shot, Hartwick's Danielle Hand launched the ball to the top left corner of the goal and past the diving reach of Skidmore's Victoria Bodnar.
  • Looking to get on the score board and back into the match, the Thoroughbreds created six total penalty corner chances throughout the fourth period but ultimately couldn't break through a tough Hartwick defensive effort.
