Thoroughbreds start weekend road trip with 1-0 win at RIT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Alec Llerena scored in the 38th minute and Will Devall made six saves, including a stop on a penalty kick, for his fourth shutout of the season leading the Skidmore College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over RIT on Friday afternoon.
  • The Thoroughbreds improve to 3-2-6 overall and with their second 1-0 victory in a row, improve to 2-1-2 (8 points) in the Liberty League. Skidmore is currently tied with Hobart for fourth.
  • RIT dips to 4-8 and 2-3 (6 points) with its third-straight loss.
  • The Thoroughbreds survived an early onslaught from the Tigers. The hosts fired off seven shots in the first 12 ½ minutes of play. Four missed the frame, Devall collected two saves, and the other, a shot from Tate Pottle, hit the right post.
  • Skidmore got into rhythm with three out of the next four shots.
  • For Llerena, his first goal of the season came from 10 yards out on a powerful right foot over the RIT goalie's shoulder.
  • Nick Jardim set up the chance by weaving around a defender to find Llerena open on the right.
  • Skidmore was called for a foul in the penalty area just 2:40 into the second half. Devall made the save on shooter Idriss Diallo to preserve the lead.
  • RIT continued its pressure with four more shots within a six-minute span, but was unable to break through.
