ALBANY, NY – A collective offensive effort paved way for the Skidmore College field hockey team to a lopsided 11-0 shutout victory over Russell Sage on Wednesday afternoon. The total marks the most in a game since the program scored a dozen against Castleton back in the 2014 season.
The Thoroughbreds (7-7) put up a staggering 60 shot attempts as a team against the Gators (1-12) and saw seven different players notch a goal, highlighted by a hat trick from Sophomore
Hannah Nash and two-goal performances apiece from senior
Brooke Tunnicliffe and freshman
Emma Houff.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Skidmore struck twice in the first quarter, with junior Abby Ezickson getting things started with a ninth-minute goal before senior CC Wetter followed up in the 12th minute with a score of her own. Both goals were off the rebound of saved shot attempts.
- In the second period, Tunnicliffe notched her first goal of the game 1:14 into the quarter before Nash found the back of the net in the 21st minute off an assist from sophomore Catie O'Rourke.
- The third quarter saw more of the same as sophomore Colby Paul first scored in the 37th minute before Tunnicliffe scored her second goal off in the 40th minute. Senior Beth Yorns rounded out a three-goal quarter for Skidmore with a 43rd-minute goal. Both of the latter two goals were assisted by junior Mia Angwin.
- The Thoroughbreds closed out the game with a barrage of scores from Nash and Houff in the final period, with Nash securing her hat trick with goals in the 50th and 56th minutes and Houff notching her pair of scores in the 54th and 57th minutes.
