Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Skidmore scores late for dramatic 1-0 win at RPI

TROY, N.Y. – Junior Cole Rogan scored on a long free kick in the 81st minute to lift the Skidmore College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Rensselaer on Friday evening.
  • The win is Skidmore's first in the Liberty League in 2024. The Thoroughbreds are 2-2-6 overall and 1-1-2 (5 points) in the Liberty League.
  • The host Engineers dip to 3-8-1 and 1-2-1 (4 points).
  • Skidmore has defeated RPI three seasons in a row and is now 4-1-2 in the head-to-head series since 2017.
  • On a free kick from almost 50 years out and way to the side in front of the visitor's bench, Rogan drilled a right boot into the goalie box. The RPI keeper misjudged it, allowing the ball to bounce once and into the open net.
  • For Rogan, it was his first goal of the year. It broke a streak of 275 minutes since Skidmore's last goal.
  • The Thoroughbreds have now surrendered just one goal over its past 292 minutes of gameplay, going back to a 1-1 tie at Hobart on Sept. 28.
  • Skidmore held a 10-7 edge in shots and had six out of the game's eight shots on goal.
  • In his first start, first-year Rowan McLear had two saves for the shutout.
  • Colin Such made five saves for RPI.
  • Tobias Catizone and Josh Hocheiser both let off two shots. One from Catizone in the 63rd minute hit the left post.
  • Gianfranco Loli accounted for four out of RPI's seven shot attempts.
  • The Thoroughbreds conceded a pair of corner kicks in the last minute of play but defended both successfully to preserve the win.
  • Rensselaer ended with a tight 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
  • The shutout is Skidmore's fourth of the year. The Thoroughbreds have surrendered one goal or fewer in seven straight and nine out of their 10 games thus far.
UP NEXT
  • Skidmore will play its final two road games of the year next weekend at RIT (Oct. 18) and Ithaca (Oct. 19).
