Thoroughbreds power down Garnet Chargers, 57-50

SCHENECETADY, N.Y.- The Skidmore College women's basketball team scored the game's final nine points in a 57-50 Liberty League win over Union College. The Thoroughbreds have won five straight to move to 14-4 overall and 9-2 in league play. The Garnet Chargers are 6-12 and 5-6.
  • Julia Blanck continued to rattle league opponents with her 11th double/double of the season. She scored 14 points and had 11 rebounds and two blocks. Emmy Plage added nine points, three steals and six rebounds. Becca Horger and Amelia Medolla scored eight points each.
  • Jelena Perovic (15) and Jenna Forman (14) combined for 29 points for Union. Perovic had 11 rebounds.
  • Cassie Davidson hit a clutch three to tie the game 48-48 with 2:24 to play. Perovic put the Garnet Chargers back in front, 50-48 with a layup at the 1:59 mark. Those would be the final points of the game for Union.
  • Blanck tied the game 50-50, then Davidson made it 52-50 at 1:10. A Maddie Hastings steal led to a Medolla three and a 55-50 lead. Sarah Chambers and Plage each went 1-2 from the free throw line in the final nine seconds to secure the win.
  • Skidmore's bench had an 18-13 scoring edge in a game that featured 12 ties and 14 lead changes.
  • The win completes the second straight regular-season sweep of Union. The Thoroughbreds won 66-40 on Jan. 6.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore travels to Rensselaer on Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest.
