Blanck leads Thoroughbreds past Ithaca, 66-59

ITHACA, N.Y.—Julia Blanck scored a career-high 29 points and Skidmore overcame a 13-point deficit to beat Ithaca 66-59 in a rematch of the 2023 Liberty League women's basketball championship game. The Thoroughbreds move to second place in the conference with an 8-2 league and 13-4 overall record. The Bombers are third at 7-2 and 13-3.
  • Blanck dominated inside accounting for 29 of Skidmore's 66 points, going 10-17 from the floor (58.8%) and 9-10 (90%) from the line. She had 12 rebounds, two blocks, three assists, three steals, and three defensive stops in the final minutes. It was the 10th double/double of the season for Blanck.
  • Cassie Davidson and Madison Meyer added eight points each.
  • Annabella Yorio (15) and Junie Dickson (14) combined for 29 points to lead Ithaca.
  • The Bombers started strong with an 18-5 lead with 3:30 to play in the first quarter. The Thoroughbreds closed the quarter with an 8-2 run to cut it to 20-13. Blanck scored the last six points of the run, with Melissa Severino hitting a pair of free throws to get it started.
  • Emmy Plage hit a pair of second quarter free throws to give Skidmore its first lead since the opening minute, 27-26.
  • It stayed a two-possession game, until the Thoroughbreds used an 8-1 run to go up 48-38 with 3:58 left in the third quarter.A quarter-ending three cut the Skidmore lead to 50-47 after three.
  • The Thoroughbred defense took over the final five minutes. Up 58-57 with 5:07 to play, Skidmore held the Bombers to a pedestrian 1-11 from the floor for the remainder of the game. Blanck scored five of the team's final five points, with Meyer making a pair of free throws and Becca Horger hitting one free for the 66-59 final.
  • Skidmore dominated the boards once again, 46-31. The Thoroughbreds were 15-18 (83.3%) from the line for the first three quarters, finishing 21-28 (75%).
  • The win is Skidmore's second straight over the Bombers after stopping a six-game losing streak by winning the 2023 Liberty League Championship game 54-52.
