Thoroughbreds drop 3-1 league contest to Clarkson

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's soccer squad surrendered a pair of first half goals and despite cutting the deficit in half, dropped a 3-1 decision to visiting Clarkson on Wednesday evening.
 
  • The Golden Knights have won five in a row. They are 6-1-1 and 2-0 in the Liberty League. Skidmore is 1-5-1 and 0-2.
  • Max Heberlein scored his first goal of the season for the Thoroughbreds at the 60:50 mark to cut Clarkson's lead to one. He accepted an accurate pass from Cole Rogan and collected it to himself before slipping the ball past the keeper.
  • Clarkson got its two-goal advantage back with 15:01 remaining when a flurry of action led to an Eric McKean penalty kick conversion.
  • The Golden Knights went on the offensive early on with goals in the 10th and 17th minutes. Nolan Grady scored both of them for the visitors. Jonathan Dereka and Logan Drake assisted.
  • Clarkson finished with a 14-5 edge in shots and hd five shots on goal while Skidmore managed two.
  • Luca Bravo Frederick made two saves for the Thoroughbreds. Josh Morelli had one stop for the Golden Knights.
  • Clarkson also finished ahead 5-2 in corner kicks.
NEXT UP: Skidmore will travel to Vassar on Saturday for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
